Katukiitäjät - Street Gliders Finland

FinLine 2006

The midnight sun skating event!

It is time to sign in for the best skating event ever. This year’s FinLine is exceptional as it is the 15th FinLine, and we will celebrate it by travelling all day and night to Lapland, in order to get to skate in those spectacular views. Additionally, the sun will not set at all during the week we skate, and thus we can skate at night time, too. You can leave your flashlights and reflectors home.

Because we want to keep FinLine an intimate and cosy event and the quality of the accommodations as high as possible, the maximum amount of the participants is 30. We are happy that the amount of our international participants has increased during the years, and we welcome all nationalities to join us. The places will be booked in the order the applications are received. However, the old participants will have an option to sign in first till the 17th Feb, but there will surely be places left for many newcomers, too.

The day trips vary from 45 to 86 km, and the total is around 310 km. If you know that you are able to skate these kinds of day trips five days in a row, we recommend you to fill in the FinLine registration form as soon as possible. Click here for more information on dates and registration. Do not hesitate or waste your time, but sign in now! You will not regret it.

Route and day program

The route starts from the Arctic Ocean (for those who want to get extra kilometres) or from Nuorgam, the northern most village of Finland and carry on along the river Teno (Deatnu) finishing at Saariselkä. On the way we might shortly visit Norway too, as the river Teno is the border river of Finland and Norway. Only the scenery will be worth travelling all the way up to north!

You can also preview the FinLine 2006 route with Google Earth! The free MapSite provides detailed maps on the area.

What does it cost, and how do I pay?

Katukiitäjät will not profit anything about the event. Everybody pays for their accommodation and meals on the spot and the travel and service car costs will be covered with the registration fees.

Hotels and meals are paid directly to the service provider. 200 - 250 ¤ is enough for hotels and meals during FinLine. The final costs depend on the amount of the participants. So, if the estimated registration fee (100 ¤) for the service and travel expenses is too much in relation to the amount of participants, the excess money will be used for the skaters!

When your registration has been confirmed (not earlier than 17th February for newcomers), you need to pay the Street Gliders' membership fee (25 ¤) and the registration fee of FinLine (100 ¤). If you have not agreed otherwise with us, pay them well before the deadline using the following banking details*:

Note: FinLine skaters are not insured by Street Gilders. Please check carefully that your insurances cover skating in Finland. Helmet must be always worn when skating on FinLine (no excuses).

* In the Euro area you can transfer money to Finland without any extra costs (compared to a domestic bank transfer) if you specify our SWIFT code and IBAN number correctly.
